Clarice Bean, That’s Me was written in 1994 and was published in July 1999. It wasn’t quite my first published story, I Want A Pet came out in April of that same year. However, I always consider Clarice Bean to be my first book because it was the first picture book idea I successfully completed, and though it took many years before it arrived in print, it was certainly the beginning of things for me as a writer and illustrator. It was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal and this had a huge impact on my confidence and my future publishing opportunities.   

That’s Me, was closely followed by two more picture books and three illustrated chapter books. The fourth is on its way.
